October 31, 2017 TO SELECTED BOEs IN THE US BRANCH TERRITORY Re: Discontinuation of the Funds-on-Deposit Arrangement
by wifibandit inoctober 31, 2017 to selected bodies of elders in the united states branch territory re: discontinuation of the funds-on-deposit arrangement.

I thought the funds on deposit arrangement was done away with when they told the local congregations that should only keep 5k in their accounts and forward the rest to the WTS? I get the idea, if a congregation had a large amount of money, rather than invest or put into a savings account, they would allow the WTS to have it where they could get better returns. The principle stayed with the congregation but any investment income would be used by the WTS to fund their "work".
I gotta think that there are banking or tax regulations on this arrangement that is causing the change.
But, I thought the big cash grab had already happened.

A Little Direction Please
by Brian J ini'm an active elder, cobe, just got home from the meeting where i handled the treasures part and concluded by announcing a friend of mine has been d/f,.....blah blah blah...and over the last year have woken up.
i simply cannot spill my guts to my wife and children as it would be family suicide.
i have zero desire to bash, spread my feelings, or become an "apostate".

Brian - Welcome! My 2 cents is that everyone's situation is so different and there really is no right or wrong answer. I still attend despite being awake for a long time. Why? It's just easier for us to show up at half the meetings, fake service time and then live our life as we wish. Both myself and wife have extensive family relationships that would be destroyed if we took action. In our case, the pain of staying is less than the pain of leaving.
In my situation, I was an elder and woke up after several years. The stress of being in an appointed position and having to do all those duties when I didn't believe was really tough. So, I ended up resigning for "family reasons". At first, my wife was upset with me. I set up my increasing stress and displeasure with the elder body for at least 6 months before resigning. And I was keeping her in the loop on things they did that caused me to be angry so when I did resign, she was actually happy.
Over the ensuing years, I pulled back and she was never gun-ho to begin with. Finally, we had a long discussion where she admitted she never really believed and that she was scared that if I could go from a true believer that was 100% in to someone who didn't like the organization and was 100% not in, then I would do the same with our marriage. But, when she saw that nothing changed in our relationship and that I was actually more considerate of her (not putting the org over her anymore) she realized that it was the religion that was screwed up, not us.
Now we are both awake and at first, we discussed JWism often but now its a nuisance that we deal with.
The only advice I can give you is to take it slow and don't dump everything on your wife at once.

Just a thought, field service has very little success in actually making converts especially in first world countries. The whole purpose in those countries is to give members a sense of purpose, unity and keep them busy. If you were running a business based on production and looked at their success rate in making converts, you would definitely change the model. The amount of FS reported directly correlates to how spiritual a person is viewed and their standing in the congregation. The only way you can drop the requirement to report would be to replace it with some other measure. It honestly has nothing to do with making converts.

What can the leadership at Watchtower do to turn things around?
by UnshackleTheChains inlet's play devils advocate here.. put yourself in the governing body's shoes.
they are well aware of all the issues they are facing.
they know their numbers (they 'do the math' as they say in the us).

Hopefully, they will continue to make blunder after blunder! They don't have a creative thinker among the higher ups so their answer to everything is doubling down on what already has been ineffective. The cuts they are making to literature, etc are not strategic but more reactionary. I think they generally believe that the Big A will come soon and bail them out.
I've said it before and will continue to say it, apathy among members is far and away the cause of their problems and until they make people really care again, they will continue to slowly lose momentum.

Jackson seems like a nice guy (although misguided). Definitely Tight pants Tony. He would be a fire breathing, no holds bar old school apostate! LOL - He already hates individual JWs more than any of us put together! Especially elders which he especially has contempt for it seems.

Explanation please on the change of the term "worldly"
by careful ini've picked up from several replies to posts here that the org has stopped using the term "worldly" as it applies to people.
this must have happened after i left.
would someone be so kind as to explain the "rationale" behind this shift?
-

Same here. It may not be in print but it's a huge part of the average JW vocabulary and is used from the platform all the time.

Update on the $4000 day fine - Padron v Watchtower
by berrygerry infrom reddit:.
this was an oral argument to dismiss the $4000/day fine.
both sides presented their arguments and now the judges will write an opinion (30 to 90 days).

Thanks for the update. I think if the WT loses, the flood of lawsuits could be problematic for them. That's why they are fighting tooth and nail. The 2m fine is nothing compared to what could happen.
